GENEALOGY

At Interhash 98 in Kuala Lumpur a preliminary draft of the Family Tree of the Hash House Harriers, worldwide was produced, showing the relationship of some 1,100 Hash chapters to the original Hash House Harriers, created in Kuala Lumpur in 1938.

The interest shown in this project at the Interhash event, and subsequent information received from all over the Hash World, has enabled us to refine the structure and to add about 200 more Hash chapters to this Family Tree.

In May 1999 a revised edition was published covering these 1,300 Hash chapters. More recently, an additional list of about a further 100 Hashes has been included as a result of further information received.

The Hash Family Tree is maintained on genealogy software (Reunion 8 for the Mac OS X by Leister Productions) and converted to html for display as a real time navigable family tree on the Hash House website.

The Family Tree currently contains (where known) details of chapter name, location, date of birth, date of death, founder and co-founders.

The genealogy considers each Hash chapter to be the 'mother' of all the Hashes directly formed from it by members of the originating Hash.

Each Hash founder is the person who is considered to be most responsible for the formation of the new child Hash. Those who assisted the founder in the establishment of the new chapter are considered to be co-founders or 'midwives'.
